Parley Hellewell for Utah Senate

Parley's philosophy

Every elected state official takes an oath before God and before his fellow citizens to "uphold the Constitutions of the State of Utah and of the United States."

Parley intends to keep his.

In harmony with that solemn oath, Parley will tenaciously--but tactfully--seek to bring Utah government into line with the legal documents from which state government draws its authority: the state and federal Constitutions.

As he does so, he will base all his efforts as a legislator on the principles in those "founding documents" and in the most important founding document of all--the Declaration of Independence, which defines the ideals on which our state and federal Constitutions are based.

Parley therefore stands firmly on the following statements of philosophy:

  1. Principles vs. positions

Firm commitment to principle is more important than statements about "issues." [Click for more]

  2. Constitutional law

The original language and intent of the Constitution, not the "activist" courts, should guide our nation. [Click for more]

  3. Social issues

Morality and family, not government, is the solution to society's problems. [Click for more]

  4. Education

The best way to improve education is through school choice. [Click for more]

  5. States' rights

The federal government should not be allowed to usurp authority reserved to the states. [Click for more]

  6. Taxes and the economy

Taxation should be minimal, simple, and fair--if workers are to be productive and the economy is to grow. [Click for more]

  7. Government regulation

Personal liberty and a free-market economy are the solution to overregulation by government. [Click for more]

  8. Health care

We must ensure consumer choice in health care. [Click for more]

  9. Equal opportunity

Equal opportunity is needed in the workplace and in the marketplace. [Click for more]

  10. Immigration

We must secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws. [Click for more]
