Parley Hellewell for Utah Senate

Letter to delegates from Senator Parley Hellewell

Dear Delegate,

This last legislative session was like no other I have ever attended. I didn't like the outcome, and I particularly didn't like the fighting between the Senate and the House and the Governor.

It made me realize that now was not the time to leave the Legislature, with so many things happening! More people trying to take away our freedoms, especially our religious freedoms, and so many people looking to government as the answer to their problems, rather than themselves.

A large number of you have asked me to reconsider and run again. At first, I said no. But as more of you expressed your concerns about several important things — including your desire to retain my style of representation in the Senate — I decided to run again.

I had already decided to slow the growth of my business, and I hired someone to take over a lot of my responsibilities. So business issues that made me first decide not to run were no longer a factor and no longer important — but what is important is the future of this country and this state, and the lives of our children and grandchildren.

I have enclosed highlights of a joint resolution that I ran this year. I think you will like it. It passed both houses with 100% of the vote. It will really help our religious freedoms. There doesn't seem to be anyone else taking up this fight as I have, and the fight does need to continue.

The campaign season is getting late. My opponent has been campaigning for quite a while. I am willing to serve again as your senator — but I need your help. If you believe I have done a good job and would like me to continue to fight for what we all believe in, please go out and get elected as a delegate.

The caucuses will be held March 21 at 7 p.m. I ask for your support, so that together we can continue to protect our God-given rights and freedoms, preserve our representative political system, and build our families without unjust interference from government.

Thank you for standing with me.

Sincerely,

Senator Parley G. Hellewell
